Architecture and Design Magazines for Inspiration
Flipping through design magazines is one of my favorite ways to find inspiration. I love looking at the design, graphics, layout and content for ideas to inspire my own work. There are so many great magazines out there across all genres. I gravitate towards fashion, film, art, architecture and interiors, but there are a lot of food, outdoors and transportation pieces out there that are also pretty incredible.
Here are some that I am currently reading and enjoying.
Architecture + Interiors
AD Architectural Digest - My first magazine subscription. My love for it started when I was about ten years old!
Ark Journal - Based in Copenhagen, the layout and content are minimal and modern.
Dwell - I remember when this first came out and all of us were so smitten. We still are. It is that magazine that all residential architects would love to be published in.
Elle Decor - The most comprehensive magazine for all things related to interior design.
Mountain Living - Stunning residential design in the mountains of the Western United States.
RD Residential Design - For residential architects and builders, this is a great source for current projects and inspiration.
Fashion
AnOther Magazine - Fashion, art and design reviews and write-ups in a stunning color glossy format.
British Vogue - The very best in fashion, runway, beauty and art. Every fashionista carries British Vogue in their tote.
Elle - Beauty, fashion and culture. Elle Magazine never disappoints!
Harper’s Bazaar UK - Culture, celebrities and fashion!
Hube - Quarterly magazine which focuses on connecting people. The magazine focuses on art, fashion, science, technology, aesthetics, society, and philosophy.
Vogue - All things celebrity, fashion, beauty and culture. Vogue really needs no introduction.
Vogue France - Each season they issue a Collections Book with the newest runway fashions. It is a glimpse into where design is headed in the upcoming year. I love to practice my French reading skills too and pretend I can understand it all.
Art + Misc
Cultured - This art, architecture, design and film magazine makes you feel like you are in the know about the most current artists and happenings around the world.
Filmmaker - If you are interested in making films, interviews with filmmakers and festivals and events, this is the magazine to read. It is packed with current info to help stay up to date.
Gagosian - The very best of the best artists and exhibitions, as showcased in the quarterly magazine brought to us by the Gagosian museums.
Juxtapoz - To feel like the in-the-know cool kid, just read this. Art and culture that takes you out into a world of new artists.
Outside - The ultimate in inspiration — the outside world. My best ideas come from hiking in the mountains or running along the oceanfront.
Whalebone - Culture, surfing and stunning photography keeps you coming back to this one. Even subscribers ask “what is this magazine about?” You just have to read it to know.
I hope you have found some inspiration here!!
